New Wentworth Format + race info
^^^
Wouldn't the commercial event insurance work the same way for the ride weekends? We've been doing this for the past 2 yrs...has this changed for this year?
We're just looking at options that might work better.
Also, the special event sanction only covers the race, so if people are riding on a part of the mountain other than the race course the sanction likely won't apply. But I'm getting ahead of myself and detracting for the thread. Next Thursday at the MTB Committee we'll be addressing some of this with Jaymz. More to come after that.
WOW, nice work, you have liffted my spirits about the sport here Thanks.
man, so stoked for riding wentworth!!!
5/6th has been marked, and yeah, being able to ride both days definitely makes the thought of staying or coming out for both worth looking into!
So is the lift running for this!? or the truck??
How many ride/race days planed for this year?? I'd like to tentatively say I'll be there to ride for all of them!

I look forward to hearing about this. I find it funny that the special event sanction was recommended to us by BNS...but now come to find out that it only covered racers. I have my own theories about that...but enough hijacking the thread for now.
Anyway...back on track...YAY Conor! Looking forward to riding my bike agan this summer...one year away from Wentworth was hard on me.
A special event sanction is one that allows people to participate in the race / event without a race license. Note the singular. If there is a ride day and race day going on at the same time that is two events that can't be covered by one special event sanction. But it's even more complicated than that. However, the more I learn the more I'm coming to find new opportunities that will better serve DH. I'm also finding that some old options might workout better still with a more appropriate execution.
On a related note, I'm the one at BNS who in the past pushed the special event sanction on the DH events since at the time it was the best option. As event formats and ideals change, so will the best options for sanction... it's not because I have an agenda to screw the DH community.
I misread your original post regarding both events on one day...so i apologize for being an ass.
awesomo!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers mate! Apology accepted.
Great work Connor!
this sounds great, ill be taking that weekend off tomorrow
pumped cant wait to get back to wentworth is the timing system going to be used for all the races this year?
Hey everyone, we are getting ready to host at the Keppoch June 26th and 27th. Would like to follow the same format as Conor at Wentworth. Hope to see you all that weekend, cheers! Keppoch Jeff
I am hoping to have a BNS DH meeting at the ride day before the riding starts. Everyone and anyone with questions or concerns regarding DH, DH rep and how to help in general can attend and offer up suggestions on how to make things better. Now is the time to nut up and show you care. Anyone who doesn't attend the meeting can't complane about how things are ran without a note from there doc.
Any one intrested in helping us build some trail is welcome to turn up here in wentworth next thursday (the 22nd) at 6 pm on the barclay rd. We will be re building the grassy switchbacks trail with more air then ever before. Note* those who show up to help will be remembered this summer... Bring gravel rakes and loppers and shovles. Chain sawing will be taken care of.
Conor.
Will we need snow boots. I thought you guys still had snow? *kinda joking, kinda not*

Looks like the snow is melting away based in the first pic. I would imagine there will still be some in the woods...but not a huge amount. Conor will better confirm that.
we are snow free in the trees. that's all that matters.
Conor, myself and hopefully some of the guys from Antigonish will be there early on Sat to attend the DH meeting. Thanks.
sounds great. thats two years in a row that the race is on my bday and i wouldn't have it any other way.
good work connor and mckay
I am thinking it would be great fun to have the 3rd ride weekend on halloween weekend. Maby a race where the costume is mandatory on sunday??? just a though. What do people think of that? Oh, and Marcell, we are proud to host a race on your birthday. Just for that, free entry for you. but no one else.
Halloween race sounds good. Racing DH in a costume sounds scary......does a Troy lee Clown suit count????
I like the idea, Conor. That'll be fun. I think some ridiculous Chikadee climb / DH race is in order, too. I missed it last year.
I gotta say, Mini excavators make awesome berms. New grassy switchbacks are progressing really well. I think this trail will be the race trail of the year. Probably the best Wentworth trail to date. Building tomorow night starting at 6 from Barclay rd. all welcome...
Is there any hope of pics?
Even in the seemingly darkest of times, when the human spirt drops to new lows and all that you belive in and stand for seems in vain, there is allways hope. Life without hope is life at is most dismal and wretched indeed. Let that solarity ray of hope shine in and light your soul so that you may indeed bathe in its purness have your spirt uplifted to soar on high, aloft with the eagles and to the very fringes of human imaganation. Once there, you may reach your own true apex of perfection.
ill try to post a few. have hope.
Conor, you never cease to inspire. I laughed, I cried - it was better than cats...
Hey race fans, Great news...... the wireless timer is ready to rock. Dry runs have been compleated, All the parts are in play and we are going to do a wet test comming up soon. If anyone wishes to learn how to use this system (anyone who plans to us it) will be welcome to join us for an evening at the hill when we will put it through its paces. Dates to follow. and pics if i can get them on this forum with my non computer inclined brain.

Awesome to hear Conor! Jeff T. in Keppoch has been making inquiries to us on the BNS MTB Committee on his different options. We're doing some investigation into how different sanction options can accommodate ride days etc., so that it's cost effective for the organizer. I'll be sure to let you know what we find out.
Five flames for awesome.
