The first rule of SS racing is don't talk about SS racing.
Yeah, Simmer mentioned today that their has been a lack of info and vibe since early summer. Eric was in Freddy Beach all summer doing firefighter training so maybe he's had other stuff on the go for a bit. Hit him up with your questions.
Hell ya, that was an awesome event. Thanks to everyone involved in putting it on. I agree with Terry, I've raced there off and on for the past 15 years or so and that was by far the driest most fun example of old school mtb racing at the Gorge ever. I couldn't imagine hardtailing it through there with a 63mm fork (if that), thank god for progress.
Wow, that course was the essence of the overly abused term 'ol skool'! Tight windy singletrack, just the way I remember it from the mid 90's. Actually it was far drier than any time we raced it back 'in the day' Pepperj must have installed in-floor heating elements or something!? I had a blast rippin' that course for the first time since 97.
Thanks to Pepperjester and his band of volunteers for a job well done. And thanks to the enthusiastic spectators! When you do marathons and endurance events you kinda forget what's it like to have people cheering every lap. Good stuff!
And thanks to the kind cat who lent me his 29'er SS for the last lap, I didn't catch his name.
Here are directions from the high way to the Truro Skate park. It's a full concrete park with a half bowl, a few boxes, a spine, an vert wall, a sub box and tonnes of flow. The best thing about it is mainly only bikers ride there.
- Racing for ALL including jr. classes will start at noon.
- Reg will be open untill 11:45 but I'd prefer if people showed up well before then.
- Cost is $25
- As the commissar about lap numbers. Elite (A) will be doing 4 laps as far as I know but BNS will have the final call on this kind of thing.
- I'll bring as much water as I can, there are washrooms and taps across the road at the ball fields and near by gas station + we have lots of trees.
- Signs will be up at the end of the road to the trail head by 8 am. It will be very visible.
Trail was drying up like a rocket when I was in this afternoon. Dave and I will be on site by 7:30 doing any last minute clean ups. Now I should back to making awards...
I learned the hard way that a tubeless tire burp at the wrong moment can cause trouble. I am running Stans in Nevegals, 18 psi front; 22 psi rear (I weigh about 145 lbs; these tire pressures were set to keep the outer knobs just off the floor/trail). While recently cornering (fast), I may have wandered to the inside "ridge" of the trail; the front sidewall then appeared to have burped, and the tire must have rolled laterally, and I augered my face into the turf. Once I spit out the debris, I noted the tires still contained air, though were very soft. The beads were still in place, but now had small roots and turf trapped in the apparent "burp" area.
This incident has left me, along with a few face abrasions, wondering if my relatively low tire pressure is a problem. Or was it bad luck (or perhaps a bad line on the corner...). Wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience. I really like the tubeless performance, but would like to figure out if something needs tweaking...
Oh the cruel irony! I'll be working the bike show in Montreal showing the coolest new stuff for 2011 while a ProTour race happens only a few minutes away that i can't get away to see. This race is Definitely a 'must see' for anyone on the fence about going to watch.
Consolation points however cuz we'll have Ballan, Hincapie and some of the other BMC team guys in our booth on the Monday morning after the race for pics, etc.
Is their a race poster or finalized details?
Registration cost? What time does registration close? Laps per class? Are we starting at noon ?(original post says time subject to change), Water or toilets available on site?
Couldn't find anything on the BNS site.
We didn't get nearly the rain I would've expected. My lawn seems to have sucked up the 20-30mm pretty quickly, hopefully the course is in similar shape.
Just came from the trail. Walked the whole trail, picked up any debris from the Earl. A few small branches and only one large one. The heavy rain is over now and most of the puddles are already drained out.
Joe.......Go to the race/ride weekend on the 25th.......you'l get double the runs, and you can ride both days. I always went to the festival, but the reality is the lift lines ae crazy long. I think it would be great for them to continue having bikes on Festival of Colors, but its not the day that you'll get the most runs in.
Sunday morning ride (depending on what Earl leaves us with!)
0900 at Whopper trailhead, if anyone needs directions etc please email me, PM, or call me at 220-0848.
For those who have never been to Whopper it is a mixture of granite rock, man made bridges (nothing too serious). It is a more technical trail than spider lake or the other trails we have done in the past but still very rideable for most riders.
Great times, whoever would have thought post hurricane Gorge would be dry? Thanks to Pepperjester and crew for making it happen.
Dave is in there twice once as David Marshall and once as Dave Marshall
This Brent Noble dude is on fire! Good work! Under 15 and he could be competitive in B?!
You are awesome Randy... THANKS!

It's sensory overload! For that weekend there's the Montreal Tattoo Convention, BTAC Trade Show, Pro Road Race, and Montreal Comic Convention!
I figure I'll sleep on the plane.

Forgot to ask the cost? When registration closes? and is it a 12noon start time?
Give this a try...

That map link doesn't seem to work... Can we get some directions.. I have never been there before and need to plan drive time accordingly...

Going to be a stellar race tomorrow folks!

Interesting....I was looking forward to enjoying lift access riding at Wentworth.
At this point we are a go. IF things get out of hand a call will be made by 1pm +/-
So glad to razz the pisz out of you, dude. Glad you made it out, cause I had a sense of victory for you!
